Steam on ArchBSD

Is it possible to run Steam on ArchBSD yet? I have some real problems running Linux and I found out that when running BSD on my computer, I don't get all the "freezes" and the system is generally smoother - which is crucial for playing games.

Re: Steam on ArchBSD

I only partially managed to get steam to run with the linux compatibility layer. The glibc required is too old, but it may be able to run one day, as long as the games get branded correctly. As of now, steam won't run, but will work with wine.

Re: Steam on ArchBSD

I'm going to follow up on this. Steam won't work until epoll syscall is implemented int he Linux binary compatibility layer. There is a patch, but it doesn't work on fork, so until we have a working implementation. There will be no steam.

Re: Steam on ArchBSD

the glibc required is too new you mean, the one we can use with the current linux layer is the old one.

Nope, our current base is good enough. Here is steam running with the 2012 ArchLinux base, back when world was at 9.2 tongue
